rating system-white.png

I’ve created my own personal rating system that I’ll apply to each of the books I review. Now, it’s not something I’m particularly comfortable with doing because it’s somebody’s work I’m rating. However, I understand it comes with the territory.

I aim to assign a book I’m reviewing with a rating that’s thoughtful as opposed to arbitrary. Please do with my ratings shared as you choose. It will not hurt my feelings if you feel differently than I do. In fact, I hope you share your opposing thoughts in the comment section of the book I’ve reviewed so we can have a meaningful conversation about it. I never get tired when it comes to talking about books.

One Star

Don’t waste your time. The writing style, plot, and characters were so problematic and/or difficult to follow that I could not even finish it.

Two Stars

Not terrible, but not great. The story’s development was convoluted and confusing to follow. I was able to finish the book, but only out of pure curiosity to see if the story ever improved.

Three Stars

Interesting, but slow. A handful of characters help move the story along, but the writing style was left to be desired. My recommendation of the book would be provided with a caution including the specific areas I did not particular enjoy.

Four Stars

Rewarding and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The writing style was developed in a way that it overshadowed its minor missteps. It was evident that the author researched the book’s central topic and I was enlighten on some aspects, practices, and/or behaviors that I was not fully familiar of before I read the book.

Five Stars

Masterful. The writing style and its characters were perfectly developed and captivating. The story was thought provoking and positively impacted my point of view. I highly recommend this book as a new and unique adaptation of the genre under which it is classified.
