Honey & Spice By Bolu Babalola

Star Review: 5 Stars

Honey and Spice by Bolu Babalola is as delightful (rom-com + fake relationship + Black female Lead) as it is insightful. One of my favorite elements of the book is this subtle character assessment of men. Not in a way to bash them as a gender , but more in way to understand them as individuals. At one point, Kiki (main female character) speaks of a past boyfriend taking her rejection of him as a challenge to overcome and I haven’t stopped thinking about the line. It gave me chills!

Do all men suffer with this? Absolutely not! But, the ones that do leave a lasting impression that creates an automatic defensiveness when interacting or encountering others. Rejection is not something in which to be challenged but acknowledged and respected!

Overall, this book is one of my favorites of the year! And let’s not forget Malakai. He deserves all of the flowers! (swoon!)
