Black & White Striped Sweater: A Styling Spotlight
It's Friday and I'm ecstatic Texas finally started acting right by introducing some semi-cooler weather this week. I’m not sure how long the temperature drop will stay around, so I thought it was a fine time to start pulling out some of my favorite fall sweaters while it's visitng. I know my last styling spotlight included a stripes number. However, I’ve been looking especially forward to re-wearing this black and white striped sweater since I put away circa fall of 2020.
If you spent any time on the internet last year, I’m sure you saw some mock up or interpretation of this sweater as much as I did. I’ve recently decided to focus more on developing my style as opposed to following trends (read more here), but it’s hard to classify any black and white striped garment as a trend seeing as the pattern is timeless.
Plus, I didn't want this sweater simply because everyone else had it. I was impressed that a simple black and white striped sweater could be elevated by bell sleeves. I haven’t worn a bell sleeved top since high school. So, consider me shocked and intrigued when I discovered they were making a small comeback last year. But, enough about trends!
Today, I’m sharing three easy ways I styled my most cherished sweater. Sadly, this exact pullover is no longer in stock. However, I’ll share some similar, higher quality styles below that will work just as well if you’re looking to add a version of it to your own closet or replace one with another you’ve recently donated.
LOOK ONE
FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS
I’m not one that entertains much faux leather anything apart from moto jackets. However, last year’s faux leather pants and leggings frenzy made me curious to try out a pair myself to see if the hype around them tracked. I’m here to report, it did.
I originally rocked this look with a pair of tan booties that have since been donated because they felt unnecessary western. I replaced them with this pair of Chelsea boots that are sleek, sturdy, and comfortable. There’s a definite edge the leggings and boot combination bring. So, I’ll personally be saving this look for some sort of causal night out.
LOOK TWO
WIDE LEG BLACK PANTS
I finally took the bait and made a singular purchase from ABLE. I decided to try out their wide leg pants in Black. I remember trying on a similar pair about three years ago and absolutely hating how they fit. I must not have been in a good headspace at the time seeing as I now I prefer a wide leg pant over a pair of straight leg jeans. This looser fit look still manages to be flattering and feminine. I added a pair of Cris Heels to hoist the look for those sohpisticated occasions.
LOOK THREE
A WHITE BUTTON DOWN + STRAIGHT LEG JEANS
This is probably the way I’ll be wearing the sweater most of the time. I’ve been in search for some inexpensive loafers to hold me over until I can purchase a longer lasting pair and I found them by way of Target. Since this is the most leisure of all three looks, I felt inclined to add a touch of red lipstick.
Speaking of—if you’re looking for the perfect red lipstick, I can’t suggest Fenty’s Red Stunna Lip Paint more. There’s no surprise here that Rhianna is responsible for making the perfect red lipstick. Anytime you see me wearing a red, just know its likely Fenty’s. It stays in place for an entirety of a night AND the product itself last for a surprising length of time. I’m happy to report I’ve been using the same bottle of lipstick for almost three years now. It’s a bit pricey, but for the amount of time it lasts—I think it’s worth the cost.
