My Old navy Sleeveless Cross Back Dress Find

I know, I know. I declared a buying hiatus recently and trust me—that’s still in full affect. I did a shopping binge a few weeks before the hiatus took affect and this particular piece was included in the purchasing mania. Does anyone else feel as if Old Navy is slept on by many? I get it. For one, it was the hotspot to shop back in my day and we grown now. And two, the ambiance is a little different than your average department store. My mother was never thrilled about buying me anything from there. She always joked it felt as if she were shopping in an industrial warehouse. And touché. BUT, I like what I like and she obliged. Albeit kicking and slightly screaming.

Anywho, by now you know I’m leaning into chic basics when it comes to the shades of clothing I wear. Old Navy’s heavy supply of neutrals keeps me coming back for occasional visits well into my adulthood. My most recent and very random visit introduced me to this Tan Sleeveless Cross-Back Rib Knit Mid Shift Dress number. I typically only entertain cross backs when it comes to workout tanks and sport bras. This dress changed all of that though. The cross back detail is the primary reason I had to get it.

When I picked it up off of the rack though, I noticed there were no extra smalls left. A little shopping practice hot tip: when I check out a staple in store or online, I always pay attention to the available sizes to see if the piece I’m interested in runs large, small, or TTS. If there are no extra smalls or smalls available, it’s safe to assume the piece probably runs large. If there are no larges or extra larges available, it’s safe to assume the piece runs small. If there is a wide variety of all available sizes, it’s safe to assume the piece runs TTS. Nothing about this practice is rocket science, but if you didn’t know or if you haven’t paid attention to this before, there you go.

Just as I guessed, this one ran a little big. I didn’t feel like hunting it down at a different store or ordering it online just to get the next smallest size I could fit. So, I ended up going with the smallest size I could wear/the store had available. Turns out, I actually like the roomer fit. I did notice the dress hugged my stomach a bit. I would assume a roomer fitting dress would conceal it better, but oh, well—I’m not tripping about it and I’m not returning it because the love for it is real.

I’m already playing with going out looks ( I.e. heels, red lipstick, and layered necklaces) and lounging moments (I.e. a sweatshirt on top of it or around the waist, black leggings underneath, and high top white Chuck Taylors). You better believe it’s already in my suitcase for my upcoming trip. I’m actually planning my outfits to the T. One of which includes this dress and my favorite Forever 21 Straw Hat. Since this dress, some staples I already own, and my 6 Nuuly pieces will be all I’m planning to take with me, this will be the first time I’ve gone on a vacation where there will be no extensive shopping done beforehand nor will my suitcase be overstuffed with superfluous clothes I know I will not wear. Wins all around.
