My New Favorite Staple: Black Cropped Sweater Vest

Was anyone else as shocked as I was to find out sweater vest were a “thing” again? I had my fair share back in the day and I’ve owned a couple to complete a professional look for work, but I never foreshadowed them having any sort of comeback in mainstream fashion trends.

There’s even an official classification for them. You ready? Grandpa Preppy. Yes, Grandpa Preppy. Though the classification is strangely on point, just know - sweater vests come in a variety that ranges from posh to playful.

They’re even being worn during the Spring and Summer months. Being a Texan, I’m always a little leery about wearing any type of Fall or Winter staple in the warmer months for fear they’ll just stick to my sweaty skin. Since I discovered a cropped, lightweight version, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.

I bought this H&M Black, cropped sweater vest back in February. I paired it with these Target Universal Threads wide leg pants I purchased last year that I’m trying to incorporate into my clothing rotation more to get its fair wear. The Olive Green adds a pop of color without being too flashy.

Whenever I purchase quasi cropped tops, I always size up to minimize bellybutton appearances. I bought this one TTS and it meets right at the top of my high waisted pants. So, if you’re a modest mouse like me-know that your stomach is safe from exposure, but maybe just limit your arm and hand raises.

This vest could easily be worn with your favorite pair of high waisted jeans, a pair of white shorts, or a maxi skirt. I could also swap out these Target Nude Heels with my A and F flats or my coveted Reebok Tennis Shoes. The options are endless here, folks.

This specific vest is low in stock, but I’ve added some other options that will work just as well, if you’re interested in making a purchase. Let’s be Grandpa Preppy chic together!
