A Little Newsletter

I do not have a newsletter. I want one, but I just haven’t been able to buckle down to actually create it. Plus, I’m still trying to figure out a blogging/life/work balance. So, I’m just going to focus on one thing at a time. In the meantime though, I decided to carve out some space on MLW and just bring the same energy here that I would an official newsletter.

This is intended to be a brief round up of a life update (if there’s one to give because monotony is real at the moment), my recent finds, my current listens, my current watchings, and my current reads. The only difference between this series of updates and an official newsletter is you won’t be getting an email notifying you it’s dropped. I’m not going to put a timeline on how frequently these little numbers will be issued, but all in all—we’re keeping it simple, fun, and real time.

Let’s get it.

A Bookstagram Community Read Piece

Albeit small—I’ve been apart of the Bookstagram world for almost a year. I’ve made observations and your girl has some thoughts. I love the space, but there still seems to be some problematic practices and truths it’s perpetuating. I just have to share to get them off of my chest. Lord only knows when the piece will be done, but be on the look out for it. Somebody has to say it, so it might as well be me.

A Little Reading

Grown by Tiffany Jackson

I’m in the throws of last year’s hit, but new to me, ‘Grown’ by Tiffany Jackson. Considering the plot and content, I’m enjoying it because it’s important. The story is dark and there’s a disturbing, but real character that’s reminiscent of a well-known, disgraced, and incarcerated celebrity. I plan to review it, but just know—there are quite a bit of triggers one should consider before reading. I have a teenage niece and I cringe thinking about something like this being done to her so cunningly and calculatedly. It’s a must read in my opinion.

A Little Watching

Amazon Prime’s Upload

Alright Amazon Prime members, this one’s for you! My best friend suggested I give ‘Upload’ a chance considering she just finished her second watching of it. It’s a unique, quirky, and futuristic series about digital afterlife. There’s quite a bit of humor, but there’s also a mystery that’s being investigated. With only 10 episodes, I finished the series in 2 and 1/2 days. I really enjoyed it. Robbie Amell is a (big) celebrity crush of mine. So, if for nothing more—watch it for him and thank me later.

A Little Find

Whole Food’s Soap Lift

I’m still a bar of soap user and I always will be. I recently discovered a Soap Lift (or Soap Saver). You place your bar of soap on top of it and its grooves lift the soap from the surface it’s placed. This minimizes the soap from dissolving quickly and it helps it last longer. A genius invention if you ask me. I’ve linked the one I purchased from Whole Foods. If you’re still in the bar of soap game, trust me—you need this!

Rom-Com Pods: Showmance

Quarantine lead to my discovery of the Bad on Paper Podcast hosted by Becca Freeman and Grace Atwood. Well, Becca and, her friend/co-creater, Rachael Greening King, recently released a new season of their hit rom-com podcast entitled ‘Showmance.’ You know I love a good rom-com read. So, this series is right up my alley with its charm and meet cutes. A 30 minute or so length episode is released every week. I’ve really enjoyed listening to them as I work. Also, BIG s/o to a ‘Big Brother’ coined phrase being used as the series’ title. IYKYK

5 Things I’m Focusing On This Summer

If you haven’t had a chance already, I wrote a post all about the Five Things I’m Focusing on this Summer. I included the wearing of a specific type of sunscreen and getting (at least) three helpings of my Healthish water bottle a day. I don’t always create five items to focus for upcoming seasons, but having done so reminded me to make myself and my mindset a priority. It’s nothing deep, but it was enlightening to sit down and think about what I wanted to focus on for me and me alone. Be sure to check it out and let me know if there’s something you’re focusing on this Summer.

See. Quick and (moderately) painless
