Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans Review

I’m in disbelief spring is next on the horizon. To be honest, it’s my least favorite of all the seasons. Dressing for it can be so difficult. One piece that fails me not during each passing season though are a quality pair of jeans. They’re the one piece in my wardrobe that I wear the most often.

Back in the day, I made a habit out of constantly being on the hunt for my next great pair of jeans to add into my clothing rotation. Double points if the pair I had my sights on were inexpensive. Fast forward to today, the last pairs of jeans I purchased were three plus years ago and each of them were investment purchases.

Giving Levi’s Another Try

I bought my first pair of Levi’s jeans four years ago and I didn’t really care for them. Now that I’m a little more into the mom jean look, I decided to give Levi’s another try. I’ve seen the Ribcage Women’s Jeans in few different styles, but the pair that most aligned with my own personal style were the Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans.

Today, I’m sharing my review of the Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans I recently purchased in hopes to give some idea of what to expect should you decide to pick you up a pair, too.

Sizing

I wasn’t too sure what size to get, so I referred to Levi’s sizing guide and review section to get a better idea. Most of the reviewers said they’re TTS. I took the jeans in a 28W x 29L and they fit closely to my typical 6/8 size.

This pair is definitely more on the flare/loose side, but they still managed to give by bottom half shape. My hips looks slimmer while my waist and booty look defined. It’s amazing. Apparently, Levi’s jeans have a reputation of doing this in most of their offered styles. This was not my experience the first time I picked up a pair, but it does seems to be the case with the Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans I own now.

Material

I decided to pick up this particular pair of jean because the materials used to make it were classified as being ‘sustainable.’ I did my own research to discern if this was true or not so I didn’t fall victim to another example of greenwashing. This pair is made with 99% cotton and 1% elastane. Cotton is a natural vegetable fiber obtained from the seed of the cotton plant where elastane is a synthetic fiber.

Good news: majority of the jeans’ materials are made primarily through sustainable means, BUT I would suggest Levi’s disclose more about the garment worker’s pay and the conditions in which the garment workers made the jeans before fully classifying them as being sustainable. Just my take.

High Rise Fit

Levi’s refers to this pair as being their highest high rise yet and they weren’t lying. The top of the jeans meets about an inch above my bellybutton. These are a classified as a ribcage fit, but I didn’t feel as if they were restrictive or uncomfortably tight around my stomach.

This is a cropped style. I’m 5’5 and they meet a little above my ankle. So, I suggest being mindful of this when deciding on what shoes to wear with them seeing as they’re not intended to cover them up.

How Long Does It Take to Break Them In?

It took me about 7 wears before they starting forming to the shape of my body. I’m noticing they’re starting to loosen up and give with each wear. I don’t mind jeans giving, but my biggest concern is that they’ll loosen and give too quickly that I’ll look as if I have no shape to the point they’re unwearable.

I’ve read Levi’s jeans hold their quality overtime, but only time will tell how true that is with this pair. I’ll be sure to share my own personal update on this when I’ve owned them a little over a year’s worth of time.

Pricing and Final Thoughts

The going rate for this pair is $108. I’ve paid more for other jeans, so personally—I think that’s reasonable. I’m not of the mindset that expensive equals higher quality and ensures longevity. I was willing to pay this price simply because I wanted them, I could afford it, they filled in a gap in my closet, and I did sufficient research to discern if they were the right fit for me value wise.

Overall, I like this pair of jeans and think they’re worth the hype. I’m interested in snagging another pair in a darker wash, but that would be a little down the line. I was surprised they were a little more on the loose side of things, but that’s because I’m primarily a skinny jeans type of girl. I wore the mess out of them in the winter and I’m excited to pull some simple, but flattering looks together for the upcoming spring and summer seasons.

If you grab a pair, let me know what you think about them.
